Overview

The Dodgers compete in MAJor League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League's West division.

Established originally in 1883 in the city of Brooklyn, which later became a borough of New York City, the team joined the NL in 1890 as the Brooklyn Bridegrooms, going by several names before settling on the Dodges in 1932. The Dodgers and the Yankees had quite the 'across town' rivilary which continues to this day long after the Dodgers relocated to Los Angeles in 1958.

Many a baseball Hall of Famer was to don their famous strip, including Jackie Robinson in 1947, and their name 'Dodgers' according to their team's official historians, heralds from the term 'Trolley Dodger' term that was affiliated with people having to dodge the trolley cars that weaved in and out of the borough of Brooklyn in the 1890s.
